Flying Balloons Quilt

This quilt was made by my mother.

My mother has made quilts with her mother and I made quilts with mine. My mother made me a quilt a few years after I moved to Toronto and she made it with various fabrics I sent her from Toronto fabric shops on Queen Street West. I requested it to be sewn in a deconstructivist style with the seams out. My grandmother thought it was quite funny and my Mom was along for the adventure. When I flew back to visit, I had the chance to help my grandmother and mom stitch some of the quilt top to the bottom. My mother loves making her detailed quilts. One of my favorites that she has made has been a red flower motif done similar to a graph block representation reminding me of Ukrainian cross-stitch patterns.

I have made only a few quilts so far and I tend to lean towards making more contemporary and minimalist designs. Here is an example of my mother`s work.
