Vintage Accoutrements ~ Sharon Dawn Collection

Vintage Accoutrements ~ Sharon Dawn Collection

I love vintage. The thrill of treasure hunting to find unique items from the past. Items which would never be replicated in the same way today. I have slowly been collecting since high school. Buying an item here and and items there. My first job in Toronto while studying fashion design was working at a vintage clothing shop on Queen Street West. I looked forward to finishing classes to go to my job and my curiosity continued to develop over the years buying antiques and supplies here and there. After a few years I became a vintage buyer for the same company searching for unique vintage clothing items for various stores in Toronto, around Ontario, across Canada and to additional clients in Japan, Australia and England. My mother kindly gave me many cherished notions throughout time and all of things I have saved with the interest to recreate or add to an original design adding a vintage elements. Making use of what has already been created, looking forward with a hand made item preserving this vintage accoutrement and giving it a new life with a different perspective.

In this photo you will see how I made use of vintage denim patchwork fabric with an embroidered dragon from the 1960's. I also made use of a vintage leather patchwork button and vintage chain. I used new bamboo purse handles that are straight yet crooked.

This item has been purchase many years ago at one of the the first craft shows I participated in at the Franklin Carmichael Art Group craft sale. I feel deeply connected to this item and it was hard to let it go.
